There are many legends about the origin of the settlement and its name. According to one legend, hundreds of years ago shepherds settled in the area and the place was named after one of them—Ravadin. Another legend says that the lands in the area once belonged to a cruel landowner who beat his workers with a stick called a ‘ravdas’. The most interesting legend, however, tells of the beautiful maiden Ravdalina, with whom the god Neptune fell in love and wished to take with him into the depths of the sea, but she refused. Enraged, the god sent a water disaster to destroy the village, but the other gods stopped the calamity. Thus, the huge waves formed all the numerous bays.
